At St. Michael’s Church, Boldmere, we see caring for creation as a vital expression of our Christian faith. As part of the national Eco Church programme run by A Rocha UK, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and encouraging sustainable living within our church community and beyond.
We are proud to have achieved the Bronze Award 🥉, recognising our efforts in the following areas:
Worship and Teaching – weaving themes of creation care into our worship, preaching, and church activities.
Church Buildings – currently undergoing major renovation to include eco-friendly technologies such as solar panels, underfloor heating, and air-source heat pumps.
Church Land – part of our church yard has a raised planting bed area that is lovingly maintained by congregation members, providing a peaceful green space for reflection and biodiversity.
Community and Global Engagement – initiatives like toilet twinning, pen recycling, and litter-picking connect our local actions to global environmental justice.
Lifestyle – we are actively reducing our paper use by limiting printed materials and encouraging digital alternatives.
We also segregate our waste to improve recycling, and our children’s group regularly takes part in outdoor nature counts, helping younger generations engage with and learn from the natural world. This summer, we are excited to host an Eco Church Fayre, celebrating creation care and sharing practical ways we can all make a difference. Our journey doesn’t end at Bronze—we are working towards the Silver Award 🥈, deepening our commitment to environmental stewardship as an integral part of our mission and ministry.
